Juneteenth will land June 19 2026. There is a Netflix docuseries titled ,Supreme Models, addressing the icons of fashion Blackness
The documentary addressed the issue of makeup that t0 2026 there are innumerable shows that the makeup artists aren't proficient within proper makeup coloring towards Girls and Women of color. I'm not that dark and had issues of it. The story of agents rejecting honestly until I was signed to a New York agency prior, ADR and Listed Management every single agency turned me down. Every single, modeling, dance, talent, etc it's been a tenacious deal such as Beverly Johnson that had to pound the pavement and hold jobs or exposure without an agent. Directly working with the magazines, PR, designers, etc. I've been rejected innumerable, I'm 5'1, "exotic" not pale but not dark. Don't look too white but don't appear "black" per say either.
To their point of colorism being an issue. I've been within conversations of being pressured to pass within the sector. Of the initial modeling jobs I was offered it was a billboard paying 5 grand I was ecstatic until I saw it was designated to a white Woman. I declined because within my conscience it is the equivalent of giving the finger to your ancestors and denying who you are. A few years later I earned the same amount for the cover of Savoir Faire.
Activism and diversity to the enth degree. Models don't really require agents anymore.
