Nepotism of Broadway and The Mainstream
“We’ve been raised by television to believe that we’d be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t.” Fight Club —
I’ve posted of the following prior, nepotism and shall we post “favors” is highly prevalent within the mainstream entertainment sector but further prevalent within the Broadway sector. I’ve been vocal I’ve a problem with it entirely when lacking talents are handed a role etc they really don’t deserve, and or certainly doesn’t embody the character from the original speaking of the instance the musicals etc stem from an original. I’ve a further problem when role preference is stemmed from black/brown or white enough.
There’s a musical I won’t post the name of that really would’ve been well served it wasn’t adapted from a legendary film and is a bastardization of the original that is basically recasting and “alternate” casting for nearly every leading role except for the female that was grimacingly cast that doesn’t embody the criteria whatsoever of the original character nor what was posted during the initial casting. And frankly doesn't hold a key to save their sentience, tone deaf, and has a very grating presentation.. That the supporters of the original have panned it and the Minneapolis debut was met by crickets. Castings and auditions I’ve posted of prior aren’t frequently right and are a waste of talents bandwidth. Entertainment is a gate-kept sector whether mainstream or Broadway.

“Nepotism and favoritism ("favors") are highly frequent within Broadway, as it is a close-knit, highly competitive industry reliant on networking and affiliation. While you may require talent to sustain a career, insider connections significantly reduce the difficulty of getting seen and hired.
Favoritism and "Pre-casting": Directors, producers, and casting directors routinely favor actors they have successfully were hired prior.. When returning to a prior collaborator, creatives often "pre-cast" roles, meaning the audition process is heavily skewed—or sometimes a formality.
The Role of Favors
The Currency of "Clout": Because there are thousands of performers for very few roles, trading favors is a, systemic reality.
Favoritism is debated across theatre levels. Community and educational theatre sectors often face backlash when directors cast their offspring. Broadway, however, favors and hiring within a trusted network is defended by some as practicality to guarantee reliability within high-stakes, multi-million-dollar commercial productions.
Industry forums (such as Reddit r/Theatre and r/musicals) reveal mixed opinions. Some users argue insider connections gatekeep opportunities and waste raw talent, while others suggest it is a natural aspect of any competitive entertainment business. “
It’s precisely the rationale innumerable talents vacate the sector because of that lacking integrity behavior of casting directors, A&Rs, Scammy voting members etc. I'd say a large number lack integrity totally. It's nepotistic idiocy.
Eminem spoke of that behavior and mentality within the sector. Broadway is nada different than the mainstream. He was factual
